It wasn’t an investigation of the Trump campaign. It was an investigation of people who were 1) offering private briefings/sharing polling data with Russians 2) traveling to Moscow at the height of the election 3) made privy to Russian dirt on Clinton and 4)
discussed lifting sanctions w/the ambassador and lied about it. All while Russia was attacking the election to help Trump win.
